The Guyana Baseball League is proud to announce that Mr. Mark Gafur has accepted an offer to manage all national baseball teams in 2017, Mark who’s playing career included time in the Minor leagues has been coaching baseball for twenty years and lists the Florida Marlins and the prestigious Harvard University among institutions he has worked with to develop players.
Mark is a long serving Vice-President of the GBL and was asked to fill the role of International manager following the GBL’s initial foray into international competition at Baseball Canada’s Women’s 21U Invitational.
President of the GBL Robin Singh expressed his gratitude to Gafur and said “it became obvious during the tournament in Halifax that our technical work was not up to the standard required, Mark has that knowledge and the experience imparting it to players, we are overjoyed that he has been able to find time in his schedule to commit to managing our international teams and also to running coaching education courses in Guyana in the near future”
The GBL will be competing in various tournaments around the world in 2017 in various divisions, the men’s team will be heading to Florida in December to prepare for International competition beginning 2017, and players will be recruited from Guyana and the Diaspora.
In Guyana, Open tryouts days are slated for the September 3 and 11 at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Bourda. Players are asked to wear appropriate sport clothing, no other equipment is necessary.
Open tryout daily schedule of events include Catch Play, Timed 60 yard sprints, Infield/Outfield Fielding Drills and Batting Practice.
